Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important representative stated the incident made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
