The former head of state was found guilty of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on the previous day: Do you plan to struggle for your country, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your settee? I call on you to struggle with us."
