19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging season, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from March of that year.

Success also means the Russian has won 21 titles at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional title, took control to create a third set.

He saved four initial opportunities in a close third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
