Jurgen Klopp states rejoining to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club remains something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, currently occupies roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and providing guidance for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title in the previous campaign, but many fans holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the notion that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he shared with the podcast host: “I declared I refuse to lead any other side within the country. Which implies should it be the Reds...yeah. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on what circumstances would have to unfold to tempt his return to management, Klopp admitted he isn't eager for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, however, dining out with the players having a nice chat, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, crediting him due to the changes that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. This is a well-built balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences at the club. Jota was killed in a car crash with his brother in July.
“How do you replace such an individual? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the dressing room missing him. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad also. No one within the club will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Handling this emotionally is not easy. Overwhelming.”
