Outrage as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.

A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the forty-year-old presenter was confronted by three individuals, with one began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.

The motive behind the shooting is unknown and no one has been arrested have taken place, as per the official statement.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities revealed that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a premises in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had devoted time at the site supervising the implementation of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by squatters, as per local media.

"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," a police statement said.

Surveillance tape showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the incident.

Important clues, like bullet casings, were discovered at the location.

Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have have information to assist with the investigation.

"We know they traveled on foot after the shooting, and investigators have been tracking them to determine their destination," stated a police chief.

His family member, a close relative, said the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.

"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were ready to tackle. This is a profound tragedy."

She urged the community to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the scene, noting this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's young family.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that aired on a popular local TV network.

Beyond his work in broadcasting, Stock was active in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including private security, supplying VIP protection services and managing safety for major functions across South Africa.

He was also said to be engaged in building administration and participated in property reclaimations.

His death has caused national trauma and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his fans, the authorities and political parties.

A cabinet official remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's murder.

"He was forthright boldly and honestly. He even criticized me and my policies as a public official. He was a pure example of who we ought to be," he stated.

A political leader commented the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a tragedy for all South Africans".
