The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:

  • Each team includes only 8 real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
