The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
