The Renowned Musician Encourages Support to Propel Together for Palestine Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The effort hopes to provide aid to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it fails to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.
“It has a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced after a solidarity show held in late summer. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the piece was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of performers featured on Lullaby includes a group of prominent voices from the music world. All took part in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of producers and composers. The single blends a mix of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The team running the campaign have clarified that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a representative commented. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the area was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a few million won't make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and showing that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
