Unbowed Wilfried Nancy insists he is not worried about being fired yet the Parkhead faithful show wrath after derby defeat.
Wilfried Nancy insisted he had no concerns about the sack, claiming, “The team is very near to a turnaround,” even after sliding worryingly close to being fired with a comprehensive loss to their arch-rivals.
Another Capitulation Results in Derby Disaster
The Hoops were in front the visitors at half-time but a collapse after the break allowed Rangers to draw level on points with the defending league title holders. Nancy, who was appointed in December, has now been in charge for six losses in his last eight matches.
“The board and I are united at the club,” said Nancy.
Questioned about his own future, Nancy replied: “It’s not on my mind. I think about finding ways to aid my players to improve on the fine details.
Fan Fury On Display
The fans displayed their anger – towards the board and manager – by protesting outside the stadium. The hierarchy would be most likely to return to the interim manager, who steered the club during a interim spell last year, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. That is the truth for the moment. However when I say that’s how it is, it doesn’t mean that I am giving up. No. What I mean the turnaround is near, extremely close to turn things around.”
“Really, Really Close”
He continues to cling to the fact his team can perform strongly for one half at a time. In fact, if not for wastefulness in front of goal they could have been more than 1-0 up. “There were positives aside from the fact that we didn't take our chances,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I have also to be objective.
“The standard we had at times was of top quality. That happened. And I would not talk like that if it was not the case. Therefore, in terms of results, I said this is the same story. That’s why I feel we are nearly there to getting it right. Currently: small things.”
“We produced a lot of encouraging signs that we did, like today again. However is consistency. My outlook would be different if I didn't believe it. This is why I am convinced we will manage to fix this.”
The Rangers Boss Outlook
Rangers manager refused to contemplate a serious challenge despite what seemed like a huge result. “One match at a time, and we can develop a challenge,” he said. “The faith in the squad is immense.”
